Sarah Michelle Gellar To Guest Star In Comedy ‘Those Who Can’t’ | By Haider Rifaat

Gear up SMG fans! The 38-year old actress who starred in The Crazy Ones (2012) and Ringer (2011), both shows that were axed by different TV networks is taking the high road with a guest starring role in the new comedy Those Who Can’t. Being a huge fan of the former ‘Buffy’ star, the actress will grace our screens once again with a comedic role.
As quoted and pictured in SMGFrance.Net, a fan website dedicated to Gellar, the actress was seen behind the scenes shooting for an episode for the new comedy series. SMG will reportedly star in the second episode of the show’s first season.

During her one year hiatus, Gellar devoted her time to several charities and awareness programs including No Child Hungry but after a long wait, the actress is back on track. But the real question is, when will SMG return to television in a show that completely centers on her? Well, we’d just have to wait and watch!

Sarah Michelle Gellar Rumored To Star In ‘Scream Queens’ | By Haider Rifaat

Screams are in the air! The 37-year old actress, Sarah Michelle Gellar is rumored to star in the upcoming horror anthology TV series titled ‘Scream Queens’ says IMDB. I, for one would love to see Sarah back on the small screen.
When asked about her return to television in a recent interview for SpecSaver, Gellar answered that she will make a surprise comeback after some time. Could Scream Queens be that ‘surprise’ package? I sure hope so!

The series will be created by Ryan Murphy, Ian Brennan and Brad Falchuk. The plot of the show revolves around a college terrorized by a series of inexplicable murders. The show also stars the scream queen Jamie Lee Curtis and Emma Roberts in the leading roles. Both, Gellar and Roberts have starred in the horror Scream film series. Emma portrayed a deranged psychopathic killer in ‘Scream 4’ in 2011 while Sarah played a decent role of Casey Cooper in ‘Scream 2’ back in 1998.

fhd997YDS_Sarah_Michelle_Gellar_030Curtis, who is well known for her popular film roles in the Halloween film series, ‘Prom Night’ and ‘The Fog’ is also a great addition to the cast. Fox has already ordered fifteen episodes of the series. It is time that Gellar commits to a project that compliments her forte i.e. horror. I am really looking forward to seeing her in a fresh horror series as she is a modern-day Scream queen in my humble opinion.

She has starred in more than four horror films such as ‘The Grudge’, ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ and ‘The Return. I, along with many other Gellar fans are eagerly waiting for her return to television. Let’s hope she gets a starring role in Scream Queens!

‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ Reboot In The Making | By Haider Rifaat

Get excited horror fans! The 1997 horror/slasher film ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ is set for a 2016 reboot by Sony Pictures. The film is based on the 1973 novel of the same name. Most recently, Mike Flangan, the co-writer of ‘Occulus’, had been recruited for the project.

He tweeted: Happy to be writing a new “I Know What You Did Last Summer.” (I’m NOT, however, directing or producing… Not sure where that came from).’

Now that sounds like a good idea! I know most people have watched this cult classic slasher film and for those who haven’t, I put all my bets on it. It’s a must watch. The reboot is scheduled for a release in 2016 and will be distributed by Sony Pictures. Neal H. Mortiz, the producer of the film, is on board for the project as well.

I Know What You Did Last SummerThe original cast of the film included the Emmy Award winning actress, Sarah Michelle Gellar, the Golden Globe Award nominee Jennifer Love Hewitt, Freddie Prinze Jr. and Ryan Philippe. The initial plot of the film evolved around five friends who cover up a deadly hit and run. ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ grossed over 125 million at the box office and was declared a hit overall.

It was subsequently nominated for several awards such as a Saturn Award and an MTV Movie Award. The film spawned two sequels ‘I Still Know What You Did Last Summer’ and ‘I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer’ in years 1998 and 2006 respectively. I, for one, would love to see Sony Pictures produce a reboot of ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer. But wouldn’t it be great if the original cast of the film was recruited for the reboot as well? In any case, I’m eagerly anticipating the film in the coming years.

Why Sarah Michelle Gellar’s ‘Ringer’ Deserves All The Praise! | By Haider Rifaat

I am not quite the TV geek as there are only few television shows that I follow. The kinds that I tend to keep an eye on are those with wicked, devious themes and those that are full of secrets.

Nowadays, it’s all about shows such as The Big Bang Theory or the Game of Thrones. But in all honesty, such shows have never enticed me as a viewer. They are quite overrated, if you ask me. The unfortunate thing, however, is that a show, such as Ringer, was not appreciated or given any credit despite the fact that it had a riveting storyline and great cast to go with it.

I have always adored Sarah Michelle Gellar ever since I was seven years old. She is an inspiration to me when it comes to acting. When I heard about her initial return to television with Ringer, I was literally on cloud nine! What’s better than a good television show that has your personal favorite actress in the lead?

MV5BMTgxMzI1ODYzNl5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTgwNjM0NTM0MjE@._V1__SX1460_SY682_I saw Ringer back in 2011, when it originally aired on The CW. The show borrows some elements from the neo-noir film genre. It centers on the lives of two twin sisters, Bridget Kelly and Siobhan Martin (both portrayed by Gellar respectively). Gellar has done a fantastic job playing both the roles with equal power and vigor.

Bridget is a recovering drug addict and a stripper. After she sees her boss commit a crime, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) put her under witness protection so that she can testify against him. But as soon as Bridget learns that her boss, and his gang, have murdered such witnesses before, she decides to flee. And in her desperation, she goes to her estranged twin sister, Siobhan, for help.

Siobhan, on the other hand, is an affluent young woman, residing in New York City with her husband Andrew Martin (played by Ioan Gruffudd). It is shown that Bridget and Siobhan have a seemingly contentious relationship with each other. They have shared a rough past, which is not disclosed in the first-half of the initial season but, gradually, the audience get to learn more about the twins and their relationship.

After Siobhan’s mysterious death, Bridget assumes her identity, thinking she could escape her old life and start all over again. But little does she know that Siobhan’s life is as complex as hers. Bridget later learns that her sister had an affair with her best friend’s husband, Henry Butler (played by Kristoffer Polaha).

But wait till you hear this, Siobhan is not really dead. She is conspiring against her own sister. Why, you wonder? Well, I won’t spill all the details. You’ll have to watch the show to find out!

If you decide to watch Ringer, don’t judge the show on the basis of its pilot episode as it was not strong enough as compared to the rest of the episodes. The show only gets juicer and more intriguing as the story progresses.

But sadly, the show was cancelled by The CW in 2012. If you are assuming that ratings played a pivotal role in the cancellation process, you might want to think again. There was a poll launched in early 2012 that had listed Ringer, The Secret Circle and Gossip Girl as shows that fans would like fresh seasons for. Although, Gossip Girl had lower ratings than Ringer, the fans picked Gossip Girl as their primary choice and it was renewed for a sixth season. Ringer, on the other hand, was cancelled.

I personally believe this was a rather unfair decision made by The CW network. Maybe it should have been marketed to other networks, such as NBC or ABC family. Ringer provided a completely different storyline to the television landscape. It was a show that offered something new to the audience every week; it was riveting, fun and full of suspense. In addition, Gellar’s acting was stellar. I still believe it should be given a second season. Ringer was a whole package overall.

What makes Ringer standout from shows such as Gossip Girl or The Lying Game, is pure creativity and innovation with which it has been structured. The creators of the show, Nicole Snyder and Eric Charmelo, did a remarkable job with the plot and storylines. This very factor lacks in many TV shows that are currently on air. Most television shows of today have tedious plots, repetitive themes and predictable drama. Not only does Ringer have just the right amount of drama and suspense that will keep you on the edge of your seat, it also has a glamour and fashion element merged brilliantly with the theme of the show.

Moreover, Ringer managed to bring in a ‘twin connection’ on television and that was primarily why it did so well on television. This very factor lacks in a show such as Orphan Black, which also has a twin sister plot. But that show does not have the stimulation that Ringer had. Additionally, the creators of Orphan Black had borrowed a few elements from Ringer during the first season, reflecting on just how strong Ringer’s storyline was.

The best thing about Ringer is that it’s unpredictable and full of twists and turns. Every episode ended with a shocking climax scene that even Gossip Girl and/or Orphan Black couldn’t possibly engender.

I put all my bets on this show! It’s worthy of every accolade known to mankind. The acting was brilliant. Every character had their own uniqueness and strong screen presence. Additionally, I loved the way the director(s) of the show had choreographed New York City in such a lavish, yet mysterious fashion.

Orphan Black, on the other hand, is a satisfactory television show with more of a sci-fi edge to it. While Ringer was about two twin sisters, Orphan Black is all about cloning (which is quite sad for a television show).

I saw a few raving reviews about this show. Here is what some fans had to say about Ringer:

“It’s smart, clever, fashionable and out of this world! Love it!” said Martha Eve, a blogger from California.

“Ringer is sassy and a fun ride for everyone!” quoted Will Arthur, a website host.

“My latest obsession! Gellar is so talented. I wonder why she’s so underrated as an actress” said Timothy Harris, a writer for various newspapers.

There you go! I hope such reviews coax you into watching this amazing television series. Ringer will always remain one of my personal favorites and I hope you give it a chance. Believe me, you won’t be disappointed.

Five Best Onscreen Villains Of Today | Haider Rifaat

We all know that villains either make or break a show. Undoubtedly, a television series is incomplete without a villain’s presence. I, for one, have always been on their side as they are smart, vicious and devious. Having said that, I have come up with a list of five villains who, in my opinion, are the best in the business. Take a look for yourself!

5. Mads Mikkelsen

Mikkelson has experimented with a number of diversified film and television roles but his portrayal of Hannibal Lecter in ‘Hannibal’ was the winner! He plays the role of Hannibal, a cannibalistic serial killer who happens to be a food lover. The deadly mind games that this not-so-innocent gentleman plays in the show makes him worthy of the top five.

lecter14. Michelle Trachtenberg

Trachtenberg has always been a versatile actress. Don’t underestimate her innocent looks because this girl can go from bad to worse! Her portrayal of Georgiana Sparks in ‘Gossip Girl’ was entertaining and fun. Although her character in the show was not the center of attention but watching Georgiana grow from season to season was a surprise package.

3. Sarah Michelle Gellar

Gellar has always been my favorite actress ever since I was seven years old. She played the vicious twin sister, Siobhan Martin in ‘Ringer’, a show that was cancelled by The CW in 2012. Her performance as the evil twin garnered critical acclaim. She deserves all the praise. I loved her cheesy yet mysterious character in the show.

aa2. Janel Parrish

I was completely grief-stricken after the death of Janel Parrish’s character, Mona Vanderwaal in the summer finale episode of ‘Pretty Little Liars.’ She was the best character on the show. She made the series seem more interesting and fun. Mona was a psychopathic high school girl who exacted revenge on the five main characters of the show. Parrish is one of the best actresses in the current lot of up-and-coming actors. Her performance in ‘Pretty Little Liars’ is worthy of every accolade.

1. Zachary Quinto

I can give this lad all the credit for delivering not just one, but two spectacular performances in shows such as ‘American Horror Story: Asylum’ and ‘Heroes.’ However, I found him best as Dr. Oliver Thredson in ‘Asylum.’ Undoubtedly, Quinto did his character justice and was one of the spotlights of ‘American Horror Story.’ He portrayed the role of Dr. Oliver Thredson, a serial killer and psychiatrist. In my humble opinion, Zachary is one of the best actors America has ever produced.

Rest In Peace, Robin Williams | Haider Rifaat

The 63-year old stand-up comedian and actor Robin Williams was found dead at his home in Tiburon, California on August 11, 2014 at 11:55AM. Sources claim Williams’ probable cause of death was from asphyxia, although it is still subject to conjecture. Williams’ wife Susan Schneider quoted: “I lost my husband and my best friend, while the world lost one of its most beloved artists and beautiful human beings. I am utterly heartbroken.”

While she was clearly devastated over her husband’s dreadful death, a number of actors have also expressed their deepest sympathies over his demise.

Steve Martin tweeted: “I could not be more stunned by the loss of Robin Williams, mensch, great talent, acting partner, genuine soul.”

The 37-year old actress Sarah Michelle Gellar who recently starred alongside Robin Williams in CBS’ ‘The Crazy Ones’ also spoke about Williams in People’s Magazine. She called him ‘The father I ever dreamed of having.’ Gellar portrayed Sydney Roberts, the daughter of Simon Roberts (played by Robin Williams) in ‘The Crazy Ones.’

Williams was one of America’s most famous comedians of all time. He entertained the whole world with his charismatic acting and comic talent after starring in the hit television series ‘Mork & Mindy’ that initially aired from 1978 until 1982. He subsequently ‘wowed’ his loyal fans with some spectacular performances in ‘The World According to Garp’, ‘Good Will Hunting’, ‘Jumanji’ and ‘Mrs. Doubtfire.’ Often called ‘The Legend of Comedy’, Williams had won four Golden Globe Awards, two Emmy Awards, five Grammy Awards, two Screen Actors Guild Awards and had been nominated for three Academy Awards winning one for his stunning performance in ‘Good Will Hunting.’ Robin Williams has always been an inspiration for young and up and coming actors.

He has experimented with a number of diversified film roles and has left a mark in the history of television and theater. Robin Williams had achieved ultimate stardom during his initial years as an actor. I myself am tremendously saddened by his death. Nonetheless, Williams’ legacy will live on.

Sarah Michelle Gellar Fans Want ‘Ringer’ Season Two! | Haider Rifaat

After Sarah Michelle Gellar’s second comeback television series The Crazy Ones was cancelled by CBS earlier this year, I believe it is about time to bring Ringer back on television. This was Gellar’s first show to get axed by The CW in 2012.

Ringer focused on the lives of two twin sisters, Bridget Kelley, a drug addict and stripper on the run from the mob, and Siobhan Martin, a wealthy and devious young woman living in New York City with her husband. After witnessing Siobhan’s disappearance, Bridget takes over the life of her sister and assumes her identity thinking she could escape her old life and start all over. But little does she know that Siobhan’s life is not as simple as it seems.

vlcsnap-2014-06-04-20h23m53s62There was not a single episode of Ringer that disappointed me as a fan. Every episode was unique in its own way. But why did The CW cancel the show? If you are assuming that ratings were the key players in the cancellation process then you might want to think again. There was a poll launched earlier in 2012 that had listed Ringer and Gossip Girl as two television shows that the fans would want a fresh season for. Sadly, Gossip Girl fans won the poll and eventually, the show was renewed for a sixth season and Ringer was cancelled. I personally believe this was an unfair decision made by The CW. Gossip Girl failed to attract enough viewers during its mid season five run on television.

Although Ringer maintained a decent viewership of over one million viewers throughout the entire season, Gossip Girl attracted merely 800,000 viewers per episode on original airings. Now who deserved a second chance back then? Ringer, of course! Nevertheless, we will leave the past in the past. All Sarah Michelle Gellar fans want is a second season of Ringer. The series should be channeled to other networks except The CW as no television show sticks with the network for more than one season. I would love to see Ringer back on television. It was a great show. If you all are diehard fans of Ringer then tweet #BringRingerBack. I am sure our efforts would be acknowledged, sooner or later.
